How The Planning Process Works
Step 1:
Pre-planning
Once you've confirmed your NDIS eligibility, pre-planning is the first step of the NDIS planning process. This involves thinking about your current supports and how they're assisting you, considering your future goals, and what extra support you might need to achieve them. This stage can involve family, carers, and existing service providers.

Step 2:
Initial Contact
Once you're ready, the next step is to contact the NDIS or wait for them to contact you if you're in a region where the NDIS is being rolled out. During this initial contact, the NDIA will discuss the planning process with you and provide information on what you might need for the planning meeting.

Step 3:
Planning Meeting
The planning meeting can be face-to-face or over the phone with an NDIS representative (a Local Area Coordinator or an NDIS planner). This is the opportunity to discuss your situation, current support, goals, and additional support you may need.

Step 4:
Developing the Plan
Post the planning meeting; your planner will use the information provided by you to develop your NDIS plan. This plan will include your goals, the support you will receive (funded by the NDIS), and how these will be provided and managed.

Step 5:
Approval of the Plan
Your plan will then be submitted to the NDIA for approval. Once approved, you will receive a copy of your plan. It's important to read and understand your plan thoroughly.

Step 6:
Implementing the Plan
After your plan has been approved, it's time to implement it. This involves finding service providers that suit your needs, setting up service agreements, and booking and scheduling your services. You'll also decide how you'd like to manage your funds - whether you'll manage them yourself, get a plan manager, or let the NDIA manage them.

Step 7:
Review and Adjustment
Your plan will be reviewed and adjusted regularly, typically every 12 months, or sooner if your circumstances change significantly. This review is an opportunity to assess whether your goals are being met and if your supports are suitable or need to be adjusted.
